Jack Salisbury was awarded the 2021 Burnham Youth Award at the 2021 ABCA AGM.
Jack's passion for the Brangus breed began very early, having grown up around them on his parent’s property, ‘Upson Downs’. Some of Jack's earliest memories are of helping his Mum hand-feed weaner bulls from the age of four, and helping his Dad muster breeders and brand calves soon after.
Jack is extremely proud of our heritage at Bimbadeen – they run Australia’s oldest Brangus stud, founded by Jack's grandfather Bruce Burnham more than 60 years ago. Jack has always been involved in helping out with each part of our operation – from observing calving, helping with branding and weaning, to preparation of our seedstock for sales and sire selection for our own herd.
Jack assisted Bimbadeen in preparations for (and caring for animals) at many events, including at Beef(s) 2012, 2015, 2018 and 2021, for the annual ABCA Society Sales and with each of their on-property sales (2017-2021).
Jack achieved his Cert 3 in Agriculture during his schooling at the Rockhampton Grammar School, and completed a Diploma in Agribusiness and Management at the University of Queensland (Gatton Campus) last year.
Jack also established his own stud – Bimbadeen J – for which he has selected and bred his own cattle. He sold his first bull in the 2020 Bimbadeen Brangus Sale.
In 2021 Jack returned to Bimbadeen where he helps his family run their stud and commercial operation. Jack's job has included taking on sale preparation of bulls and breaking in animals for showing. Showing is an area Jack would like to get more involved in. While COVID-19 has hampered his showing over the past two years, he managed to get his first lot of bulls to local shows this year, and hopes to do more in the future.
As a part of the Burnham Youth Award Jack receives some prize money and will be the Associate Judge at the EKKA 2022.
