I would like to take this opportunity to thank John Thomas for filling the position whilst I was on Maternity Leave.

Unexpectantly on 13th October 2015 I gave birth to a baby girl named Kimberly Grace Mathews, she was 4 weeks early. All is going well and she is already getting into mischief.

Australian Brangus Journal 2016 – New Magazine Editor

I wish to take this opportunity to inform you of the Committee’s decision to appoint Rural Design Studio & KB Consulting as the new Editor for the production of the Associations magazine the “Australian Brangus”.


The appointment of Rural Design Studio & KB Consulting as editor offers new opportunities to be able to promote the Brangus Breed in ways that has not been available before. We encourage members to use the magazine to advertise their studs in the magazine and contribute to ensure the Brangus magazine is a vibrant and informative publication.

Entry Conditions for ROMA 2016 SALE

Reminder of the Entry conditions for the Roma Sale are:

  • Vendors must be financial members of the Australian Brangus Cattle Association. Life, Full and junior members are eligible to sell.


  • Auctions plus will not be included/used at ROMA Sale


  • All animals entered in the Sale MUST be on the ABCA database at the registration of entries in the sale. (Minimum requirement is Commercially recorded)


  • Changes to entry fees: All Registered bulls $125 + GST ($137.50)
    • Herd bulls $155 + GST ($170.50)
    • Females will stay the same $70 + GST ($77.00)


  • All Registration certificates must accompany entries & payment to be received in FULL with entries.


  • One substitute of each sex MUST be nominated at the time of entries on the approved form as a replacement in an event of a withdrawal (these animals DO NOT incur an entry fee)


  • All Bulls at Association Sales must be inspected by ACV Accredited Vet for a Veterinary Bull Breeding Soundness Evaluation (VBBSE) which will include a Semen test within six weeks of the sale. A copy of the Veterinary report must be delivered to the Roma sale committee by 4pm on 1/9/2016 at the sale venue. Any animal presenting to the sale venue with a fresh injury may be requested to provide a new certificate of soundness and be guaranteed. All cattle need to comply with the ABCA Standard of Excellence, particularly as it relates to horn status and colour markings. The committee reserves the right to down grade any animals that does not comply to the standard of Excellence.  Note that horned or dehorned animals are not eligible for sale – the polled or scur status of all animals is to be stated on the entry form. Any Registered animal or Herd bull entered into the Sale that has had Scurs removed will be required to provide a Poll/Horn test result to confirm their Horn status.


  • It is a requirement of VBBSE certificates that all animals are be mouthed.


  • All cattle need to comply with the ABCA Standard of Excellence, particularly as it relates to horn status and colour markings. The committee reserves the right to down grade any animals that do not comply to the standard of Excellence. A copy will be supplied when the entry forms are sent out.


  • Bulls will also need to be Semen tested before the Sale


  • All scanned and weight info for ROMA sale must be provided to the ABCA office no later than 5pm on Thursday 25th August 2016 for inclusion in the supplementary sheet information to be compiled and made available for the Agents and also put on the ABCA website.


  • It would be appreciated that at the close of entries (ROMA SALE) the first round of photos be provided for inclusion in promotional material ie flyers and posters. A second round of photos can be provided for uploading on the ABCA website and are required no later than Friday 12th August 2016. (These will NOT incur a cost to upload)


  • Animals to be penned by 2pm on 1st September 2016 so that members can have an opportunity to look at the animals before the sale.




  • Poll/Horn test is carried out at the University of Queensland and details are below:

Members please be advised that if you have received error reports after submitting batches of registrations instead of re-submitting the batch with the corrections if you could contact the Registrar Franki Richardson on 02 6773 2393 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and provide her with the corrections as resubmitting batches have been causing more administrative work.


Also a reminder that you can submit your registrations through the Brangus website, instructions are below:

If members require an online log in to access the online calf recording system please contact the ABCA office.

Step 1 – Login to the Members Area


Enter your Member ID and then your password

Step 2 - To enter calf registrations use the ONLINE TRANSACTIONS Link

Step 3 – To create a batch select ‘Create a New Batch’

Step 4 – Enter any comments , then click on the ‘Create’ Button

Step 5 – Click Add to create the batch


Step 6 – Then Enter the calf data as per the field name and then when finished use the GO button


When you push GO the record will be processed and if correct the next screen to enter the next calf will appear, if there are any issues with the calf details then an error message will appear.

Step 7 - Once you have completed all the registrations it will bring a list up of all your animals that you have entered and you can edit or add more.

Step 8 - When you have finished creating records for animals, you click ‘View Batch Summary and Batch Submission Screen’


Step 9 - Then click ‘Submit this batch to Brangus’ This then will submit the batch to ABCA registrar so that we can import them into the system.

Brangus Feature Show

Members please just a reminder that this year the Feature Show is at Toogoolawah on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th June 2016. There will be an Informal dinner on Friday night approx. cost $20/person which will include dinner and light refreshments. Southern NSW Sale update

A group of Members had a phone hook-up to discuss the possibility of recommencing a Southern NSW sale in 2017, the outcomes were reported back to the federal committee and as a result the committee are asking for Expressions of Interest from Members if they would support a Sale in NSW. There has been a numbers of locations proposed ie Tamworth and Gunnedah. The committee would also like to obtained feedback from Members on their thoughts, locations and any ideas, the Sale would not be held until the Bull season of 2017. If members could let the ABCA office know by the 30th June 2016.

Feedlot Trial

A Brangus steer feedlot trail is well under way at the Waterfall feedlot Goomeri. Where 147 steers have been inducted and they commenced feeding on 7th March 2016. Edward Quinn has advised that they are doing well and looking good. There is a possibility on the day they get trucked out to kill to have a field day/open day so that Members and interested persons can go and have a look at the cattle and the weight gain information and data will be displayed then, date to be advised. There will also be a Presentation dinner in Brisbane on Thursday 4th August 2016 (venue and time to be advised).



The Brangus Association has had a number of stud beef schedules sent to them regarding shows for 2016 and the committee has agreed that all schedules that have been submitted will be put on the Brangus Association website in the latest news section.
