Retiring Committee Members

The following Member has retired from the ABCA committee after many years of service and we extend our sincere appreciation Greg Magee for his contribution.

Greg Magee – Greg joined the management committee in 2013 as the Zone 1 representative.

The retirement of the member of the committee after their extended period of service to the breed is well deserved. The commitment and level of personal input into the management of the breed is hard to vocalise here but it has been significant. On behalf of the membership we sincerely thank Greg and wish his many years of Brangus breeding in the future.

Burnham Youth Award

The annual Bimbadeen Youth Award was presented at the Dinner on Monday 9th October 2017 at  the Gracemere Hotel. This award has a long history and many of the previous winners have gone on to contribute to the Brangus breed.

The winner of the 2017 Burnham Youth Award is Matthew Petty of Mount Walker QLD.

Matthew’s involvement with the Brangus breeding was in Queensland on his family property.

Mathew commented in his application letter

I started my stud in 2013 on my parent’s property and then started working on breeding and showing Brangus cattle after talking to well known Brangus breeders at farmfest 2013 and Beef 2012. I went to AACC at Gatton to complete a Certificate 3 in Rural Operations (beef production) in 2014

My father and I purchased our first lot of ultra black and Brangus females from Nindooinbah in 2013 following by purchasing two more heifers and a herd bull from Glenoyra Brangus stud. In 2014 I showed my team of Brangus cattle around south east Queensland. In late 2015 I sold my first herd bull to a Grazier at Warwick and then in mid 2016 I sold my last herd bull to a local couple at Roadvale.

In south east Queensland our main championship in the tropical  ring are the Droughtmasters and Brahmans so I've worked hard and showed quality cattle and it started to paid off when 2014 Beaudesert show I received champion pair of females of the show and also again in 2016 getting champion pair of heifers with two young heifer I purchased from Elara Brangus.

I've alway had strong passion for the Brangus breed, I've meet good and knowledgable people who like helping young people like myself get started in the stud/beef cattle industry. I'm focusing on breeding better cattle and playing around with  genetics by AI or even the next few years do an embryo program.

I wasn't born into a stud cattle family but my family have raised me up to have good quality cattle because quality equals better dollars and also have equip me with the knowledge and well power to be successful in anything I do. I was taught to be honest and true to everyone, care for everyone you work with, positive attitude and believe that you can do anything you want when you put your mind to it. My goal in life is to run my own successful Brangus stud, run good quality commercial herds plus have my own Bull sales on the property.

We wish Mathew well with his future career and endeavors with Brangus.
